An excellent account and critique of operations of Lee's Army of Northern Virginia, with Alexander here recording his firsthand testimony of many critical points of the Civil War.
Alexander was Chief of Artillery in Longstreet's Corps, and was one of only three Confederate artillerists to achieve the rank of general.
