Philadelphia: Chilton Book Company, (1965). Book club edition. Hardcover. Octavo. xxx, 507 pages. Very good in a very good dust jacket. Binding has a few shallow bumps to spine ends and a mild bump at top fore corner of upper board. Jacket has a few small chips at head of spine, some light extremity rubs, and a couple of rubbed spots along upper joint fold. Hinges sound. Jacket free of the usual spine fading. Clean and bright overall.
Herbert's epic tale of planetary feudalism in the distant future, and control of the important but inhospitable Arrakis--the desert planet known as Dune.
Dune was rejected by several publishers before being published by Chilton Book Company--a publisher which had previously only published automotive repair manuals.
Dune won the inaugural Nebula Award in 1966 and is the best selling science fiction novel in history. First editions of Dune in collectable condition are notoriously expensive, and this vintage book club edition with the same publisher' s imprint and jacket art is an appealing and affordable placeholder.
