Bound in dark blue cloth over boards with illustration stamped in blind on upper board, spine titled and ornamented in gilt, dark blue topstain. No significant wear to book. Jacket has a hint of browning to spine and a short closed tear at lower fore corner of front panel. Overall fine in fine dust jacket. A very nice copy.

Historical fiction based on the life of Sir Henry Morgan, and Steinbeck's first novel, originally published by McBride in 1929.

This copy is the second edition according to the standard Steinbeck reference by Goldstone and Payne, including blind-stamped ship and scroll on upper board, gilt-stamped spine, blue topstain, and dust jacket with no mention of publisher Covici Friede but with the additional statement "Author of 'Of Mice and Men'."
