A Harsh Critic of General Sherman and His Memoirs

Sherman's Historical Raid. The Memoirs in Light of the Record. A Review Based Upon Compilations from the Files of the War Office

Cincinnati: Wilstach, Baldwin, & Co., 1875. First edition. Original cloth over boards. Octavo, 276 pages. Near fine. Bound in blue cloth over boards with spine and upper board stamped in gilt and black, pale yellow endpapers. Some minor extremity wear, scattered light soil to exterior. Clean and tight. A great copy.

Rather harsh criticism of Sherman's Memoirs, arguing that in them he belittles the contributions of other generals and blames them for his own failures. Some of Boynton criticism appears justified when he compares selected incidents from Sherman's book to official records of the same events.
