The Diaries of George Washington, 1748-1799
Boston: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1925. Regents' Edition. Frontispiece illustration in each volume plus one map. Cloth over boards. Octavos.
The first complete publication of all available diaries kept by George Washington. Unrelated portions had been previously published at different times and under various editorial plans, but the whole of those never comprised more than one-sixth of what was available. Volume I includes the first complete list of extant Washington's diaries, and includes some diaries whose existence is only inferred.
This complete, uniform edition of the extant diaries was published for the Mount Vernon Ladies's Association. An exceptionally nice set of this valuable Washington reference.
Bound in dark blue cloth over boards with gilt-stamped spine titles, gilt rules to spines and upper boards, Washington's armorial crest in gilt on upper boards. Top edges gilt. Old bookseller tag at lower inner corner of each rear pastedown. All volumes fine condition.
