Amid These Storms: Thoughts and Adventures
New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1932. First U.S. printing. Black and white frontispiece portrait, drawings. Cloth over boards. Octavo. 320 pages.
An intra-war collection of Churchill's essays on a wide variety of topics, from U-boats to espionage, from politics to the effects of modern life. Importantly, this is the first American appearance of his wonderful essay, "Painting as a Pastime." A surprisingly uncommon first edition of Churchill.
Bound in red cloth over boards with gilt-stamped spine and upper board titles. Prior owner gift inscription from Christmas, 1932 on front free endpaper. Mild soil to binding, top of textblock somewhat dusty. Jacket has some soil, a bit of fading to spine, and some moderate edge chips and closed tears. Very good in a good dust jacket.
