Dobie was a major chronicler of everyday life and folklore of Texas during the days of the open range. This volume has much information on social history, manners and customs but also includes chapters on fighting Texans like Bean, Green, Duval and gunfighters such as Clay Allison and others.
This copy has a long inscription from Dobie to C. R. Smith on front free endpaper signed and dated Austin, May 7, 1940. Smith's bookplate on front pastedown.
