Afternoon of an Author: A Selection of Uncollected Stories and Essays
Princeton: Princeton University Press, 1957. First edition. Cloth over boards. Octavo. [vi], 226 pages.
Here are fourteen short stories and six essays by Fitzgerald which were previously uncollected. These selections were chosen by the Friends of the Princeton Library from the extensive Fitzgerald collection in the Princeton University Library. It would previously been difficult for the interested reader or scholar to find these works, evenly distributed over the course of Fitzgerald's career, showing his development as a writer.
Introduction and notes by Arthur Mizener. Also included here is a section of photographs from Fitzgerald's scrapbook in the Princeton Library. There were 1500 copies printed in this first edition.
Pink-brown cloth over boards with spine stamped in silver and maroon. Dust jacket has some shallow edge chips and mild browning along extremities. Lacking a rear blank leaf, else fine in near fine jacket.
