Chiswick: Printed by C. Whittingham, sold by Thomas Tegg, 1824. First two volume edition. Two portraits and vignette title pages. Printed boards. Sixteenmos. viii, 267 and [iv], 284, [4 ads] pages.
This first Tegg edition of "The Complete Angler" reprints the edition of 1797, and is the first two-volume edition. Illustrated with portraits of Walton and Cotton and a vignette of a fishing scene on each title page. These two are volumes 49 and 50 in Whittingham's Cabinet Library.
Texblocks are untrimmed and partially unopened. Rare in this condition. Housed in a green cloth clamshell box with green Morocco spine titled in gilt.
Printed paper boards with light rubbing along edges and corner tips. Paper shows some splitting along ends of joints but not affecting binding integrity. Slight foxing to prelims and title pages. Lettering on spines and boards remains sharp.
