Minor extremity wear, shallow bumps to fore corners. Binding sound, hinges not cracked. Contemporary prior ownership inscription on preliminary blank. Near fine.

A history of the nursing services of 21 orders of Catholic nuns during the Civil War. Interestingly, orders from both the North and South are included. These accounts and the names of the Sister Nurses were gathered to support a petition for a monument to these nurses, which was granted. The monument, by Irish artist Jerome Connor, was erected in 1924 at the junction of Rhode Island and Connecticut Avenues in Washington, DC.
