The Way to Health: St. Helena Sanitarium, California's Beauty Spot

Sanitarium: St. Helena Sanitarium, [c.1911]. Black & white photographs. Brochure. 9" x 12". Trifold sheet pages. Very Good. Minor edge wear and some faint browning.

Rare early 20th century promotional brochure for the Seventh-Day Adventist health retreat located above St. Helena in the Napa Valley. Includes text describing the facility and its philosophy of health, several photographs of the grounds, and a small map of travel routes. The sanitarium was established in 1878 by Merritt Kellogg (older brother of John Harvey Kellogg) and the settlement that grew up around it was called Sanitarium, California. The hospital is still there--known today as Adventist Health St. Helena Hospital--and is the second largest employer in Napa County and oldest Adventist hospital in the United States.
