Only a handful of Emily Dickinson's poems were published during her lifetime, all anonymously and likely without her knowledge. The extent of her poetic output was unknown until after her death in 1886. This first collection of her poems was selected and edited by friends and published in Boston in 1890. This is an early printing of that first series, printed the following year.
