[Washington, DC]: Union Republican Congressional Committee, . Wrappers. Octavo. 8 pages. Near Fine. Eight page pamphlet printed on two folded sheets which were never bound. Fore edges have a couple of short tears.
Republican campaign piece in support of incumbent President Ulysses S. Grant in the 1872 election. After detailing common abuses suffered by immigrants, particularly in New York, the pamphlet presents the case that President Grant has gone to the verge of his constitutional powers to give immigrants adequate protection. Grant was easily re-elected in 1872, against liberal Republican Horace Greeley (who died before the Electoral College cast its votes).
