The Present Status of the Diesel Engine in Europe, and a Few Reminiscences of the Pioneering Work in America

St. Louis: Busch-Sulzer Bros. Diesel Engine Co., 1912. First printing. Drawings, black and white photographic illustrations. Softcover. Octavo. [iv], 48 pages. Good in original printed wraps. Shallow edge chips and wear, including some splitting to covers along spine. Foxing to endpapers and occasional other pages inside.

Dr. Rudolf Diesel invented the high efficiency engine that bears his name. He delivered this lecture at a handful of institutions--including the United States Naval Academy--between April 13 and April 30, 1912. Interestingly, the sinking of the Titanic (a steam-powered vessel) occurred while Diesel was on this lecture tour. Ship propulsion would become one of the major applications of Diesel's engine.

Rudolf Diesel died under mysterious circumstances at sea a little over a year after delivering this lecture.

Well illustrated booklet.
