Joshua Thomas was a Tangier and Deal Island waterman-turned-minister who was largely responsible for the spread of Methodism on Maryland's Eastern Shore and Tangier Island. This account by Wallace is based on an uncompleted manuscript by the Rev. Levin Prettyman as well as anecdotes by those who knew and loved Rev. Thomas. It is the major source for what is known about Thomas.
