Eat, Drink and be Merry in Maryland: An Anthology from a Great Tradition
New York: G. P. Putnam's Sons, (1932). Drawings by Edwin Tunis. Full cloth. Octavo. xxiv, 326 pages. Bound in black cloth over boards with red, white and gilt stamped spine and upper board decoration. Salmon-colored topstain. Some mottled discoloration to upper board, slight loss to some cover ornamentation, mild extremity rubs. Still good overall.
The classic collection of old Maryland recipes for everything from oysters, crabs, terrapin and fowl, to breads, cakes, puddings, beverages and desserts. Each of the 500 plus recipes in Frederick Stieff's collection was collected from its source and not lifted from any prior publication--unless that publication was over 100 years old. Well executed drawings by Edwin Tunis, though some are racially insensitive by today's standards.
Endpapers illustrated with Tunis's "Ye Gastronomick Mappe of ye Maryland Free State."
