Tom
New York: (Arrow Editions), (1935). First printing. Color frontispiece by Ben Shahn. Cloth hardcover. Octavo. 37 pages.
This unusual item is E. E. Cummings' vision of Uncle Tom's Cabin as a ballet, suggested--according to the dedication--by Marion Morehouse, his longtime companion. The ballet has never been performed.
The frontispiece is a color illustration of Tom standing full length, by Ben Shahn.
Near fine. Bound in dark brown cloth over board with spine and upper board titled in silver, light brown endpapers. A few light scuffs to cloth and a hint of browning to textblock, otherwise clean and sound.
