In the wake of the JFK assassination, the Kennedy family sought someone to write a history of the awful event in hopes of ending the need to keep revisiting the painful event. William Manchester was a great choice. He had previously interviewed President Kennedy and the two had hit if off on the basis of their similar experiences serving in the Pacific during World War II.
Manchester was given incredible access to people as he researched and wrote this history. The result is a superbly written, incredible record of the events of that tragic weekend without the sensationalism and conspiracy theories associated with other books on the assassination.
Though normally not uncommon, this excellent book is scarce in a signed first edition.
