Beautifully produced edition of Romeo and Juliet, illustrated with Oliver Messel's costume designs for the 1936 Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film production. Messel was one of the leading English stage designers of the day, and he travelled to Hollywood in 1935 to design the scenes and costumes for the film.
This lovely volume includes 32 plates reproduced in collotype from Messel's original drawings, along with other illustrations and the text of the play. A contemporaneous review of the book is laid in.
