First edition of this fine collection of ghost stories by the 19th century's master of the form. Indeed, the editor considered Le Fanu to be "absolutely in the first rank as a writer of ghost stories." Le Fanu, an Irishman of Huguenot descent, wrote 14 novels along with many short stories, some poetry, and a pamphlet or two. The present volume includes a bibliographical section in the Epilogue dealing with Le Fanu's novels and short story collections.
