Squirrel Huntin' Sam McCoy: His Memoir and Family Tree

Pikeville: Pikeville College Press, 1979. First edition. Black & white photographs, facsimile of manuscript. Full cloth. Octavo. [vi], 181 pages. Near fine in a near fine dust jacket. Bound in tan cloth over boards with gilt-stamped titles to spine and upper board. Jacket has one short closed tear to bottom edge of front panel.

Big Sam McCoy was a nephew of Randolph McCoy, a leader of the famous feud between the Hatfields and McCoys. Big Sam also happened to be present at most of the tragic events connected with the feud, and was the only man who lived through all that and wrote it down. This uncommon source opens with Big Sam's handwritten account, and it's transcription, followed by additional information by his son and grandson. This copy has been inscribed and signed Orville McCoy, co-editor and grandson of Big Sam. Errata and additions slip laid in.
