A Selection of Eulogies, Pronounced in the Several States, in Honor of Those Illustrious Patriots and Statesmen, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson

Hartford: D. F. Robinson & Co. and Norton & Russell, 1826. 1st Edition. 3/4 leather. Octavo. 426 pages. Bound in ¾ leather over boards with marbled paper sides, gilt and blind stamped spine. Some moderate edge rubs and wear, shallow chipping to head of spine. Lacking front free endpaper. Spine is tooled in blind and titled and ruled in gilt, which has darkened. Very handsome volume with a nice presence about it.

It contains eulogies by future President John Tyler, Daniel Webster, William Wirt, Caleb Cushing, and several others. Samuel Smith of Baltimore mentions Charles Carroll of Carrollton as the lone surviving Signer following the deaths of Adams and Jefferson, and apparently Carroll was on hand as Smith spoke. There are 19 eulogies in all. SABIN 258.
