     Three professional yachting writers analyze the sport some have described as being like 'standing under a cold shower tearing up hundred dollar bills.' A nice collection of writing about the four most popular, competitive, and challenging international races: Southern Ocean Racing Conference, the 'Onion Patch', the Admiral's Cup, and the Southern Cross Cup. Lower fore corner of front board is rubbed through cloth and bumped about 1/8", prior owner's name is inked on top edge of front free endpaper and title page. Jacket is price clipped, has laminate scratches on rear panel, 1/8"-1/4" rubs at corners, and a 1/2" x 3/4" worn/abrasion mark in top left part of front panel.

Includes a digest of match results and a bibliography of the America's Cup. Bound in gray cloth over boards with spine titled in gilt, gray endpapers. Just a touch of fading to top edges boards. Jacket has a few minor edge rubs.

     Details of the immense feats of seamanship involved in the transatlantic singlehanded sailboat race. Preface by Eric Tabarly. Blue cloth with silver stamped spine lettering. Jacket has some edge rubs, a couple of short edge tears to top edge of rear panel, and a closed 1.25" tear to lower edge of rear panel. Translated by John Buchanan-Brown. Bibliography, index.      Kemp's classic work on selecting, inspecting, and building a yacht along with detailed instruction on seamanship and sailing in open yachts, steam yachts, ice boats, and much more. This edition was published in two volumes: the first being the main text volume illustrated with engravings and the second being a volume of 124 folding plates. The present book is the first volume only. See TOY #2152; MORRIS & HOWLAND p. 76. Bound in royal blue cloth over boards with black endpapers, spine titled in gilt. Rubs to edges of boards, fraying of .25" along head and heel of spine, some evidence of old dampstaining at top 1.5" of lower board. Hinges sound.

Bound in dark blue textured paper over boards with spine lettered in silver foil. Some minor extremity rubs, bookseller's label at lower inner margin of front pastedown. Jacket has a few shallow edge wrinkles. Clean and sound copy.

2456 . Smallwood, Robert B. Sir Thomas Lipton, England's Great Merchant Sportsman (1850-1931) .
New York: Newcomen Society, 1953; 2nd printing. Octavo, Wrappers , Reproduced engravings , 24 pages. Condition: Very good.
     An address on the life and work of Sir Thomas Lipton delivered at a Newcomen Society of England dinner in January, 1953. Lipton was a successful food merchant in Glasgow who pioneered the concept of a chain of shops, and eventually built the famous Lipton tea empire. He also was a noted yachtsman whose 'Shamrock' yachts several times challenged, but never won the America's Cup. Brown wraps printed in black and red on front cover, stapled binding. Light browning and faint soil to covers, mild wrinkle at head of spine.
