     Articles and yacht designs by noted yacht designer William Atkin and his son, with additional contributions by the likes of Thomas G. Gillmer, W. C. Goddard, John G. Hanna, Shirley Kramer, Cornelius Van Ness, and others. Includes several scaled drawings and a nostalgic section of nautical advertising at rear. TOY #5049a. Bound in royal blue cloth over boards with spine and upper board titled in dark blue. Touch of fading to spine and top edges boards, very light extremity rubs. Jacket has chips and edge tears, with a 3/4" piece missing at head of spine.

     Classic work that describes 69 distinctive types of work boats under 40 feet in length. Contains excellent plans. An essential book for an understanding of the design, building, and performance of modern sailing yachts. TOY, #4519; ALBION p. 31. This was noted naval architect and ship historian Thomas Gillmer's copy, with his ownership signature at top fore corner of front free endpaper. Publisher's list of plans and price schedule laid in. Also laid in is a photograph of an unidentified sailboat. Bound in dark blue cloth over boards with gilt stamped spine titles and upper board device. Mild edge wear. Jacket has mild overall rippling, sun fading to spine, and some minor edge rubs.

     A fine collection of plans for classic small craft and cruising yachts, many of which are reprinted from Rudder magazine. The younger Herreshoff's designs emphasize artistic perfection, where his father--Nathanael--had emphasized engineering perfection. Includes instructions on how to build nine of the designs, from the Double-paddle Canoe to the Golden Ball and the Mobjack. This is noted naval architect Thomas Gillmer's copy, with his bookplate on front pastedown and his name and date in ink on front free endpaper. Bound in yellow cloth over boards with maroon stamped spine lettering. Textblock edges have some mild foxing. Dust jacket shows some minor edge wear and scattered light soil to rear panel. Attractive copy with nice association.

Jacket has mild edge wear, a .5" chip at head of spine, and a 1" closed tear at top of upper joint fold.

     Originally published in 1904, this enduring classic provides information on tools, drawings, construction, balance of sailboats, planing, rudders, propellers, spars and rigging, and more. Updated in the capable hands of Francis Kinney, who apprenticed with Philip L. Rhodes, and Sparkman & Stephens, Inc. This updated edition also discusses advantages and disadvantages of materials such as welded aluminum, plywood, and fiberglass. See TOY #4794. This copy belonged to Thomas C. Gillmer, noted naval architect and historian, and bears his ownership signature dated 1962 on front free endpaper. Gillmer has additionally made some notations in pencil on one page. Bound in teal-colored cloth over boards with spine titled in black and white. Minor extremity wear, some old adhesive stains to endpapers, otherwise clean and sound.

     History of the fine yachts crafted by John Trumpy, first at the Mathis Yacht Building Company in Camden, New Jersey, and later at John Trumpy & Sons in Annapolis. Illustrations include wonderful color plates from paintings by Robert Picardat, numerous historic photographs, and plans of some of the yachts. Appendices give a wealth of information on boats built by the Trumpy family, including length, year built, original and subsequent owners, surviving yachts, etc. Errata sheet is laid in along with a contemporary publisher catalogue and price list of plans from the Benford Design Group. Bound in rust-colored cloth over boards with gilt-stamped spine title, illustrated endpapers. Jacket has some shallow edge wrinkles and some light scratches to rear panel.
